Iqualuit Emergency Services
Canada
Official Website
The Department of Emergency and Protective Services is comprised of three sections that work together to provide for the protection of life, property and the environment.
- Fire Department
- Ambulance
- Communications/Dispatch
The fire and ambulance sections, a combined service, operate out of one station. The department is composite in nature having both career and volunteer members. The department is overseen by a chief and a deputy chief and has 18 full-time firefighters/EMRs, 6 dispatchers and 15 volunteer firefighters.
This is a busy department that in 2013 answered over 43,000 calls to dispatch, and responded to 1,860 incidents. The majority of incidents (1516) were ambulance-related, and 344 were fire-related. Since 2008, ambulance calls have been declining each year. Fire calls, unfortunatley, have been increasing. The City of Iqaluit is always looking to recruit new volunteer firefighters. If you're interested in learning more, please contact the department or review this introduction to the job.
