Prior to your interview go to a station and make sure and bring coffee and doughnuts. Request to speak with the newest recruit firefighter. Tell them that you are preparing for an interview with their department. Make sure and let them know that you will only take up to 15-20 minutes of their time. Questions in an interview can relate to researching the city you are applying with. For example: Can you tell us what you know about our city? What is unique about it? Why do you want to work as a firefighter with the city of Ottawa?
This would include why you want to be a firefighter, why you want to work with the Ottawa Fire Services and why you want to live in the city of Ottawa.
Firefighter Interviews will commonly ask questions related to typical characteristic traits or abilities often found in firefighters. These questions will involve definitions, past demonstrations and/or why they are important in the fire service.
